The exhibition “GRAVE IS BETTER THAN NOT KNOWING” is now open

Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo, has opened yesterday in the premises of hall of the Youth Center atelier its exhibition, “GRAVE IS BETTER THAN NOT KNOWING” by artist Driton Selmani and curated by Blerta Hoçia.

The exhibition is created in memory of 1622 violently missing persons, as a result of the war in Kosovo, with the hope that it will raise the compassion of citizens and institutions with the families of missing persons, and serve as a call to institutions to do more in clarifying the fate of missing people.

This exhibition is realized by the Kosovo Humanitarian Law Center, as part of the joint project with Kosovo 2.0 and is supported by the European Union Office in Kosovo, the Municipality of Prishtina and the Swiss Embassy in Kosovo.

The Ambassador of the EU Office in Kosovo, Mr. Tomáš Szunyog who was present at the opening praised the importance of this exhibition and thanked the organizers for not allowing the issue of missing persons being forgotten:

"This exhibition shows how art can convey an important message and it can ensure that issues of sincere importance never fade into oblivion".

Exhibition has attracted the attention of many visitors but also of a number of relatives of missing persons.

The artist, Driton Selmani, spoke about the importance of this exhibition.

"It is a place of repose for visitors and a reflection on this huge flame that continues to incinerate many souls."

The exhibition commemorates the 1622 persons who disappeared during the armed conflict in Kosovo and the immediate aftermath, including the years 1998 and 2000. It comes at a time of denouncements and the discovery of long suspected mass graves in the territory of Serbia.

The title of the exhibition, “Grave is better than not knowing”, is an excerpt taken from the talk with Kumrije Jahmurataj, one of the many family members that are still awaiting for their loved ones.

The exhibition will stay open to visitors until January 31, 2022.
