Open Call for Mentorship Program on Transitional Justice

Are you a young person (18–25 years old) from Kosovo[1] or Serbia passionate about dealing with the past and exploring Transitional Justice? The Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo (HLC Kosovo) and the Humanitarian Law Center Foundation (HLC) invite you to apply for a three-month mentorship program focused on research and writing.

Deadline to apply: 08 May 2025


What is the program about?
This mentorship opportunity is designed to support youth from Kosovo and Serbia to deepen their understanding of Transitional Justice through guided research. Selected participants will work on short research papers (5–10 pages) on relevant topics and will receive personalized mentorship from staff members of HLC Kosovo and HLC.

What do we offer?

  • Professional mentorship and research support
  • A modest monthly compensation
  • Covered transportation costs for field research
  • Publication of your research on HLC Kosovo and HLC websites and social media
  • The opportunity to present your findings at the Summer School on Transitional Justice in August 2025

Who can apply?
Young people aged 18–25 from Kosovo and Serbia who are interested in topics related to Transitional Justice, human rights, history, and post-conflict processes.

  • A short research topic proposal (up to 500 words)

Suggested research topics include (but are not limited to):

  • The role of truth commissions in post-conflict societies
  • Victims' right to truth and reparations in Kosovo and Serbia
  • Memory culture and memorialization practices in the region
  • The impact of impunity on interethnic reconciliation
  • Youth perspectives on dealing with the past
  • Transitional justice and the legacy of war crimes trials
  • The role of civil society in documenting human rights violations
  • Gender and transitional justice: addressing conflict-related sexual violence
  • The politics of remembrance and historical narratives in Kosovo and Serbia
  • Missing persons and the right to know: regional challenges and efforts
