Yesterday, on July 11, 2024, the exhibition ‘One Day’ was opened at the Documentation Center Kosovo, aiming to reconstruct a day of the war in Kosovo. This day, corresponding to May 2, 1999, is narrated through details and visual fragments shared by survivors of the events of those 24 hours. As with any day, the reconstructed day in the physical space of the exhibition begins with the light of dawn, and as the visitor navigates the tin labyrinth where the stories appear one by one, they enter the darkness of that night of May 2, 1999, where the only source of light is the full moon from the story of one of the survivors of the Studime massacre, Mrs. Bahrije Gërxhaliu.
In the opening speech, the director of the Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo, Mr. Bekim Blakaj, welcomed the attendees and gave the opportunity for a few words to the Swiss Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Jürg Sprecher, and the British Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Jonathan Hargreaves, who expressed their interest and willingness to support such events that focus on dealing with the past.
We would like to thank the staff, artists, and collaborators who made the realization of this exhibition possible, and a special thanks goes to those who shared their painful war stories and experiences with us and with the entire public of this exhibition.
The realization of this exhibition is supported by: the Swiss Confederation - Swiss Federal Department for Foreign Affairs, National Endowment for Democracy (NED), the British Embassy in Pristina, UNDP Kosovo, and the Municipality of Pristina.
