Almost one year after the arrest of Salih Mustafa, who was also the first person to be arrested by the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO), the trial against him starts at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, namely before its trial panel, on September 15, 2021.
Salih Mustafa was the Commander of the BIA Unit, operating in the Llap Area of Operations of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
He is facing accusation brought by the SPO for war crimes (arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture, and murder), where the indictment charges him with individual criminal liability under the responsibility of the joint criminal enterprise and command responsibility for crimes committed by some KLA members against persons detained in the detention compound in Zllash/Zlaš.
In the framework of its “Monitoring the Work and court sessions of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office and Inclusion of Youth in the Justice Sector” Project, the Humanitarian Law Center Kosovo (HLCK) is monitoring court proceedings, periodically publishing newsletters and analysis on the work of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers which will serve to inform the general public on the status of court cases.
This Project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office through the German Embassy in Prishtinë/Pristina.
