On 12 May 2017, the administration of evidence began before a local Trial Panel of the Basic Court of Prizren in the case against a former KLA soldier, Remzi Shala, who is accused of having committed a war crime against the civilian population by having done the following: on 28 June 1998, together with 5 to 6 so far unidentified, masked and armed KLA members, he entered the house of Haxhi Përteshi, deprived him of liberty and took him into an unknown direction.
The witness/injured party, AP, who was present during the critical night, stated that the defendant, nicknamed “Red Apple”, was in charge of the group that entered the yard of their home, that he was the only one without a mask over his face, and that, after a short conversation with the parent, he asked his father to go with them in order to have a slightly longer conversation. The injured party testified that the defendant took his father, and that on 1 July 1998, his body was found in the vicinity of the road near the center of the village of Duhël/Dulje.
The witness stated that, before the war, there had never been anything wrong between him and the defendant and that his family had been helping the KLA in different ways. Before the critical evening, he had met the defendant on several occasions. He identified the defendant in court and decisively said he was sure that the defendant had abducted his father.
The hearing of witness AP, the son of Haxhi Përteshi, shall continue on 27 June 2017.
